Bagong Kussudiardjo (1928- ; Yogyakarta, Central Java) studied from hendra Sudiardjo before enrolling at the Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI, Indonesia Academy of Fine Arts) in Yogyakarta, Central Java. Bagong also is a well known choreographer and dancer, and his paintings with vibrant colors often are inspired by dance and movement. Awards: Pope Paul VI Gold Medal (Vatican, 1973), gold medal (Bangladesh, 1981), Piagam Anugerah Seni (Indonesia, 1985), ASEAN Award (1987). Exhibitions: Centre for Strategic and International Studies (Jakarta, Indonesia, 1996), Indonesia-Japan Friendship Festival (Morioka, Tokyo, 1997).

Rows of faceless dancers dressed like Balinese baris (warrior or line dance) march across like a ritual procession. Rhythms are established with strong strokes, repeated paterns, and legs raised in dancelike positions. The background also echoes their movements. Variations occur in skin tones, decorative use of colors, and motifs in costumes.
