In Bali coral is gathered from offshore reefs for building material. Women do a lot of hard labor in Bali that men refuse to do. On a hot and calm day at the beach women emerge from the sea with heavy loads in baskets on their heads, establishing a rhythm in the painting. The soft colors used for the smooth sand and sea contrast with the rough texture of coral in the foreground. | |||||||||||||||||||||
