The indigenous variety of padi Bali (Balinese rice) remains on the long stalks even after harvesting. Bundles are essembled in the fields and carried home on the heads of woman or balanced on the ends of shoulder poles by men. Threshing is done inthe household as needed. The simple background of terraces and palm trees adds dimension to this strong, gaphic work. Gift of the late Cedric Neukomm (Switzerland) |
