Description: I Wayan Sika (1949- ; Silakarang, Gianyar, Bali) studied at the Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI, Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts) in Yogyakarta, Central Java. Form and composition are essential to his abstract works, while balance and spirituality create deeper levels of meaning. The focus shifts from common representational forms and bold geometric patterns drawn from the rich culture, religion, and philosophy of Bali. Sika is a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Seni Rupa (SMSR, High School of Fine Art) in Ubud and at Sekolah Seni Rupa Indonesia (SSRI, Indonesian School of Fine Art) in Batubulan, Gianyar. he helped establish the contemporary Sanggar Dewata Indonesia (Superior Indonesia Art Studio) in 1970.
