The village of Kintamani sits on the rim of the great volcanic caldera of mount Gunung Batur. The climate is cold, with thick clouds rolling in almost daily in the late afternoon. The colors in this abstract painting reflect the misty atmosphere in addition to the bleakness of the landscape with blackened lava flows from eruptions of the active volcano.
