I Nyoman Tjakra (Cakra) (1945 -; Penestanan, Gianyar, Bali) was one of the first students of Arie Smit (Ducth, born in 1916) and became a pioneer in the Young Artists style of naive painting. His figures are well proportioned and animated. He has a very good sense of composition and color. Tjakra also is a talented musician and plays the drum. Description:
A Balinese upacara nganten (wedding ceremony) always take place in the houshold compound and sanggah or pemerajan (family temple), which is decorated for the festive occasion with arches of young palm leaves (background). Several activities are shown here like a traditional narrative. Two youths pound pork into a paste with spices to make sate (grilled meat on skewers) for offerings and feeding guests (left). More banten (offerings) are placed in a pavilion (right). A pemangku (temple priest) prepares tirtha (holy water) for the ceremony (center). The bride and groom, in elaborate outfits, are ritually purified with offerings, including a large caru (demon appeasement) for the entire household (foreground).
