I Ketut Budiana Description:
I Ketut Budiana (1950- ; Padangtegal, Gianyar, Bali) comes form a family of traditional master artisans and is skilled at making temple images, sacred masks, and cremation artifacts. he learned briefly from Rudolf Bonnet (Dutch, 1895-1978), and from 1969-1972 he studied at the Sekolah Seni Rupa Indonesia (SSRI, Indonesia School of Fine Art) and the Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Lanjutan Pertama (PGSLP, Teachers’ Vocational Secondary School) in Denpasar. Since 1972 Budiana has taught at several schools, and has been a leader in the Yayasan Ratna Wartha (Gems of Discovery Art Foundation) in Ubud since 1980. Collections : Tropenmuseum (Amsterdam, Holland), Fukuoka Art Museum (Japan). Exhibitions: Balinese Art Festival (Tokyo, Japan, 1985), festival of Indonesia (U.S.A., 1990-1992), World Presidents Organization (Washington, D.C., U.S.A, 1992), Singapore Art Museum (1994), Museum Nasional (Jakarta, Indonesia, 1995), Indonesia-Japan Friendship Festival (Morioka, Tokyo, 1997).

Description:
Imaginative but rather horrific figures are erotically linked together and hang from an inverted Balinese wayang kulit (leather puppet) figure of the kakayonan (cosmic tree of life). It is bent into a crescent moon shape against a black sky doted with golden stars. Thick fluids ooze and drip over the monsters in this frightening nightmare. The sinister transformations amd mysterious mood are reinforced by dark colors.
