Faizal (1965- ; Surakarta, Central Java) studied at the Institute Seni Indonesia (ISI, Indonesian Institute of the Arts) in Yogyakarta, Central Java. His naive and child-like works are based on a combination of aesthetic influences from Paul Klee, Joan Miro, and Pablo Picasso. He creates bright, colorful paintings and sculptures based on delightful distortions of human figures, plants, animals, buildings, and modes of trasportation. Faizal express humor, eroticism, and the positives sides of reality in his works. Award: Medaille du Conseil Generale Honorary Prize (France, 1991). Exhibitions: Equelle (France, 1991), Arichie Gallery (Paris, France, 1991), Asian International Contemporary Art Fair (Singapore, 1993), Centre for Strategic and International Studies (Jakarta, Indonesia, 1996).
